On Wednesday, November 6th, BRUNG Gallery broke new ground by hosting its first pop-up opening outside the gallery walls, welcoming art enthusiasts into the private space of the artist himself, Deividas Šidlauskas. Located on Kantstraße, his apartment became a lively venue for an evening dedicated to exploring art from an up-close and personal perspective.
Deividas Šidlauskas, born in 1986 in Lithuania and now based in Germany, is a self-taught artist whose approach to art is as unconventional as it is compelling. His creations emerge without a fixed plan or learned technique, embracing spontaneity and instinct over structured methods. For Šidlauskas, what matters most is staying true to the ever-evolving creative process. Everyday life fuels his inspiration, and his art continually transforms as he dives deeper into this process.
Attendees had the chance to experience the intense energy and distinct style of Šidlauskas’s work firsthand. His pieces are known for their loudness, their largeness, and a rawness that feels almost “dirty”, as he describes. This effect unfolds as viewers change their perspective — whether observing the works from a close range or stepping back to see the fuller, more complex picture.
In Šidlauskas’s own words, “I want my paintings to live, that the viewer also feels that presence, recognizes their own issues looking at it, gets disturbed by it. I’m not doing it for the beauty; I’m doing it to make you feel something you want or don’t want to feel.” And indeed, the audience could feel this intensity — an invitation to connect on a deeply personal level, to confront feelings often left unspoken.
Following the successful opening night, Šidlauskas’s works will be displayed at BRUNG Gallery on Windscheidstraße 1, 10627 Berlin, allowing more art lovers to engage with his powerful creations.
If Friday night’s pop-up was any indication, this new venture by BRUNG Gallery has set an inspiring precedent for immersive, unconventional art experiences that bridge the gap between artist and audience.
