Shuaitong Zong’s “Dreams from Another Timeline”
Opens at BRUNG Gallery 

BRUNG Gallery has launched Dreams from Another Timeline, an evocative solo exhibition by Berlin-based artist Shuaitong Zong. The opening, held on Thursday, December 5, 2024, introduced visitors to a series of works that explore identity, cultural displacement, and the “what ifs” of alternate lives. The exhibition, which will be on view until January 4, 2025, also marked the debut of a new gallery tradition—a fine art print raffle, much to the delight of attendees.

A Glimpse into Parallel Lives

In Dreams from Another Timeline, Zong takes viewers on an introspective journey into a teenage life she never lived but vividly imagines. Her acrylic paintings, known for their bold colors and evocative figurative motifs, portray tender and thought-provoking moments: schoolgirls whispering secrets on a bus, a finger questioning inherited beauty standards, or a road trip where cultural defiance quietly unfolds. These snapshots, infused with nostalgia, blend personal memory with imagination to explore how cultural context shapes identity.

Zong’s paintings reflect on the possibilities of a different adolescence had she remained in her native China, offering an intimate dialogue about belonging, identity, and the parallel lives we all carry within us.

A New Tradition at BRUNG Gallery

The evening also featured the first-ever fine art print raffle at BRUNG Gallery. Attendees had the opportunity to win a limited edition print by Shuaitong Zong, adding an exciting and personal touch to the event. The raffle was met with enthusiasm, sparking discussions about making it a recurring tradition for future openings.

About the Artist

Born in Tianjin, China in 1995, Shuaitong Zong is a Berlin-based artist with a background in Communication Design and Media Art from the University of Art and Design in Karlsruhe (HfG) and studies at École cantonale d’art de Lausanne (ÉCAL). Her work spans multiple media, with a focus on acrylic painting. Zong’s art explores themes of identity, personal history, and alternate realities, inviting viewers to reflect on how geography and culture shape the self.
